I bought mine from Tractor supply when they were having a sale. It's a 100 gallon rubbermaid. I think I paid around $80. Sometimes I see them for sale on Craigslist farm and garden. Also it has a threaded drain which is nice, probably could plumb it to a canister pond pump if you wanted.

I run a 150 gallon stock tank each summer. So far I have used it 4 times. I find that the fish I put in there for the summer almost always look better than the ones that I hold back indoors in a tank. In my case, I place the summer tank in the shade outdoors and use a fountain pump and filter to maintain it. By keeping it in the shade of a tree, I do not get temperatures above the ones advertised on the radio and by using a fountain pump with its attendant spray head, the water being circulated is actually cooled by evaporation. The end result is a tub that stays well below ambient temperatures and fish that have always looked better than the ones I held back, "just in case". In winter, like right now, I use the filters as auxiliary filters in my working tanks so that the filters stay cycled and ready for the next spring. The pond pumps are far too robust for winter use indoors so I simply use a power head on each of those filters and keep it running on a populated tank. Next spring it simply goes outside along with the pond pump and supports my summer tub right away.

I usually get in one or two water changes during the summer, but with the light fish population and the large volume, I am not sure that is really needed.

The FS store has 100 gal stock tanks on sale until the 20th for $64. I think I may pick one up.

I think it stands for farm supply. The store is located at the rt 9 walmart store in the south west corner.

Other local sources for stock tanks are Farm and Fleet or Rural King.

stock tank Empty Are they round?

Post  jikin junkie Sat Jan 02, 2016 6:37 pm

Are they the big round pond sized ones? You could put a couple koi (water hogs) in those if they are indeed 1000 gallons...or are they the 100 gallon? Hmmm freshwater stingrays? Arowana? Redtail cat? Any of the tank busters...limitless unless of course it's outside....some bass, catfish, bluegill. Twisted Evil

It is 9 ft around and is for the outdoors. I am thinking maybe my goldfish and some angelfish. I have two more spawns of angels that are hatching out now. By spring I may have a couple thousand angels to grow out.

You just do not know how big a 9 ft round tank is until you try to hide it from your wife. She has not found it yet.

What a Face just What a Face

How on earth do you "hide" something like that, lol! Has it been a while since her last eye exam?

Growing out that many angels would be IMPRESSIVE. You'll have to let us know what you decide and how you get on.
