Summer tubbin recources

Post  jikin junkie on Sun May 04, 2014 7:29 pm

Here is a list of some places that are great for supplies, plants, and what not for your outdoor tubs.

Great mail order company.
If you are in Bloomington or Normal I recommend Growing grounds for marginal aquatic plants such as umbrella plant, water orchid, dwarf cattail, pickeral. They also have water lettuce and water hyacinth but sell out by late spring.
Casey's garden center carries koi, goldfish, tadpoles and trapdoor snails. I checked this weekend and they don't have all their stuff in yet but I'm sure by next weekend it will be stocked. They also carry dwarf lotus, water lilly, water iris, taro or elephant ears and other stuff. One of my favs to visist.
Hope everyone has fun this summer with their outdoor aquariums.  Very Happy

G,

Thanks for the great info this afternoon.

Tractor Supply has the 110 gallon tanks for $59.99. Might pick one up or just do this in my pond i have now.

Yes, thank you for all the information! Really helpful (in addition to all the great info you covered in your presentation yesterday) to have a list of some marginal plants to look for, and where to look to get them. As a beginner, I wouldn't have even thought about, or known where to start with any outdoor fishkeeping. Another extremely interesting, relevant, and helpful meeting yesterday. Timely too. Thanks again.

Tub update. My fishes and plants are doing great. My 2 water lettuce plants have multiplied like crazy. I think I have 10 of them now. Also, the water Hyacinth have put off about 6 more plants. The fish (platy's, swords, variatus, and Cory cats) all seem to be healthy. I am thoroughly enjoying my little 40g stock tank, and am looking forward to setting up a few more in the future. Oh, I also spotted some fry already, so that's pretty cool too.

tub updates for hot weather

Post  jikin junkie on Mon Jun 16, 2014 9:53 pm

It looks like the horrid hot weather has arrived, make sure to keep your tubs shaded and air pumps running. I try to do water changes the day before a real scorcher. That being said, I did lose a baby goldfish today because of the heat.  Rolling Eyes
